Prices - Services

It's a big decision to have cosmetic surgery but it can have a significant effect on your life. In Plastic Surgery Center of Crete we can't promise you a whole new personality or a more fulfilling life after your operation although you may find it surprising how even the smallest change can make a real difference - not just to the way others see you but also to the way you feel about yourself.

Cosmetic surgery - who can you trust?

The desire to change one's appearance by using cosmetic surgery is growing in the UK, with statistics indicating that up to 75,000 operations per year are performed. But, while most operations are performed to high standards by fully qualified consultants, there are a number that are carried out by underqualified or ill-prepared practitioners, sometimes with unwanted consequences. In the past 13 years more than £7 million in compensation have been paid out for cosmetic surgery mistakes.

What is the bigger picture?

Research carried out by the Medical Defence Union (MDU) analysed private claims made as a result of poor plastic and reconstructive surgery. The study looked at data from 264 settled claims over a 13-year period, which totalled just over £7 million.

The researchers discovered that the largest number of claims, accounting for three-quarters of all cases, were related to breast and facial surgery, with 39 per cent for rhinoplasty (nose re-shaping) and face lifts. Most of the claims about thigh and abdominal procedures were to do with liposuction.

The most common reason for bringing a claim was that patients were dissatisfied with the aesthetic result of the procedure. They had thought the surgery would enhance their looks but were disappointed with the results. There were also a small number of claims arising from poor surgical technique or inadequate counselling before the operation.

What does this mean?

The 264 settled claims over a 13-year period is a cause for concern and suggests that problems may exist with some clinics. In October 2002 an investigation by the Consumers' Association's Health revealed problems in some cosmetic surgery clinics, with surgeons agreeing to unsuitable surgery and failing to provide proper information about the potential risks involved.

More recently problems with high street laser eye corrective surgery have been highlighted, suggesting that problems with underqualified individuals performing surgery may not be confined to the cosmetic field.

What does this mean to me?

If you're considering cosmetic surgery or corrective eye surgery, it is vital to do your homework, find a reputable consultant and ensure that the procedure really is what you want.

Choosing a trained consultant who's an expert in the specialty you require is crucial as problems, whether physical or psychological, are more likely to occur if you go to someone who isn't really a specialist in the field.

Why choose Plastic Surgery Center of Crete

In Plastic Surgery Center of Crete we have set new standards of personal service in the field of plastic surgery and our reputation is built on our ability to provide the service that our patients want. The operations are performed to high standards by fully qualified consultants and are equivalent to the services provided by renewed hospitals and health centers in UK.

The difference though is that the patients in Plastic Surgery Center of Crete can combine leisure and treatment, as the operations are scheduled during their holiday breaks in the island of Crete.

In addition, our overhead expenses in Crete are lower than in UK, so we can pass the savings to the patients and offer low fixed prices. With no hidden extras, the prices quoted at the following pages are the ones that the patents are required to pay. Competitive travel packages, which include airfares and stay in luxurious hotels and villas, combine exceptional savings in the total cost, without at the same time any compromising in the standards of care and expertise.

There is a significant price advantage for the patients that choose to undergo an operation in Plastic Surgery Center of Crete, but this is not the only consideration for those who appreciate the confidentiality and the advantages of being away from their day-to-day lives. Our patients are given the opportunity to relax and recover after surgery, whilst at the same time are being close to the surgeon and medical staff for their primary post-operative care.

Considering that leading busy lives can make it difficult to take both time from work for surgery, and time for a holiday, visiting Crete enables our patients to undergo surgery, whilst at the same time they are taking a holiday break, alone or with a partner, friend or family.

There is a minimum post-operative time that each patient needs to stay in Crete. The length of the post-operative period is depended on the procedure. At any case though the post-operative period is the same or even shorter than the time that a patient in UK needs to stay away from his/ her work.

During the post-operative period the patient is permitted to leave the city and visit places around the island whereas post-operative consultations are scheduled accordingly.

Aftercare does not stop even when the patient leaves from Crete. Each patient attends pre-scheduled post-operative consultations in UK, whereas in the meantime he / she keeps close communication with the Hospital and with his / her treating doctor by telephone and e-mail.

The staff who will care for you

Our nurses are chosen not just for their professional skills and experience but also for their personal qualities.

From your first appointment right through to the end of your treatment, they will be available to provide the advice and support you need at any time - you can even phone after you've left hospital, if you want a little reassurance.

All our staff are committed to making everything as easy as possible for you throughout your stay, and at Plastic Surgery Center of Crete you have the added comfort of knowing we have doctors available 24 hours a day.

First consultation: Comfort and convenience

We will arrange the first out-patient consultation with your Dr. Daskalakis as soon as possible at a time that fits in with your priorities and commitments.

Although operations are performed in Plastic Surgery Center of Crete, the consultation prior to the operation is taking place in London by the surgeon who will actually perform the operation. There is no charge for this consultation.

The first consultation gives the opportunity to the patient to meet the surgeon, discuss his / her medical history, the proposed procedure(s), the anaesthesia and the possible risks associated with the operation.

Arriving at Crete

On the day you come in Crete and in Plastic Surgery Center of Crete for your operation you'll be shown to your own private room, with an en-suite bathroom, satellite television and telephone. Visiting hours are flexible and you can look forward to a varied, healthy menu.

The time that you will need to stay in the hospital is depended on the operation and in specific on the recovery time that each operation involves. It is also depended on the post-operative care that each patient is provided before he / she will return home. More information on these matters is provided by the surgeon during the first consultation.

Aftercare at Home

Aftercare does not stop when the patient leaves the island of Crete. Each patient attends pre-scheduled post-operative consultations in UK. There is also close communication of each patient with the Hospital and his treating doctor by telephone and e-mail. In that way any questions, or concerns of the patients are assisted twenty-four hours a day – seven days a week.

The fast track option

A consultation before flying to Crete is the indicated way to proceed to an operation. In case that a patient is unable to attend a consultation prior to the operation, we arrange distance consultations (by phone and e-mail).

The distance consultations involve posting or e-mailing of recent photos to the surgeon, discussions and provision of information about the operation.

At the end of a session of distance consultations the patient decides whether she / he wants to travel to Crete for an additional consultation and providing that she/he is a suitable candidate, the surgery can be arranged during her/his stay in Crete.

How much will it cost?

Cosmetic surgery is not normally covered by private medical insurance, so you will have pay for the treatment yourself. In Plastic Surgery Center of Crete we will give our patients the reassurance of knowing the cost of their treatment before they come into hospital. We also offer excellent standards of care, but we also believe in pricing our cosmetic surgery so that it is as affordable as possible.

The payment of the medical expenses and the doctors’ fees are made at the admission date in Plastic Surgery Center of Crete. Deposits are not required.
